Positive Buzz on SXIP 2.0 Release at ETech

9 March, 2006 - 2:42pm

We've been demoing the new features of SXIP 2.0 at the O'Reilly ETech conference all week and are thrilled with the feedback we're receiving. Phil Windley writes "substantive improvements over version 1...an optional plugin for Firefox adds good functionality for logging into SXIP enabled websites." Similarly, Jon Udell writes "Sxip is refactoring its lightweight identity protocol in a way that should help its empowering aspects emerge".

Also new to SXIP 2.0 is increased easiness to get up and running, with no requirement for PKI on your website. Indicative of the simplicity, the night the protocol was released, Ning downloaded the PHP MDK and created a membersite in just 12 minutes!

Another new feature is greater decentralization for identity data storage. There is no requirement to store data with SXIP's root server. Users can now chose where their data is stored, whether it's with a trusted third party of their choice or on their own computer.

Downloads of the open source dev kits and additional technical details are on the SXIP developer community site at sxip.org.
