OpenID
Several members of the Sxip team are active contributors to OpenID, a free and easy way to use a single digital identity across the internet. With over 10,000 websites currently supporting OpenID and approximately 350 million OpenID log-ins, this emerging user-centric technology is now supported by many of the tech industry giants such as Microsoft, Google, IBM and Yahoo, and is yet another indicator of Identity 2.0 gaining traction.
OpenID Foundation - Our founder and CEO, Dick Hardt, is a community member on the board of the OpenID Foundation. The Foundation was formed last year by seven community members with the goal of helping support and promote the technology developed by the OpenID community. His roles on the board include: treasurer, marketing committee co-chair, and membership committee member.
OpenID 2.0 - Dick is a co-author of the OpenID 2.0 specification. The 2.0 specification builds on the authentication base of the 1.0 release with several significant new features including: directed identities, support for XRI, support for large requests and responses, robust support for extensions and attribute exchange.
Attribute Exchange - Dick is a co-author of the OpenID Attribute Exchange, which along with OpenID 2.0, was finalized in December 2007. AX incorporates much of the former SXIP Networks technology for enabling the transfer of rich user identity data online. Applications are now able to exchange user attributes so that users can avoid re-entering it at site after site. See a demo of it working.
OpenID Information Cards - Dick is a co-author of OpenID Information Cards, which converges the two technologies and permits you to present your OpenID as an Information Card that can be visually selected rather than a string that must be typed. This makes OpenIDs easier to use and provides additional phishing-resistant authentication.
PAPE - Johnny Bufu, one of our lead developers, is an editor of the OpenID Provider Authentication Policy Extension (PAPE), which provides phishing-resistant OpenID authentication and is supported through our OpenID4Java library. Checkout a demo of it in action.
OpenID4Java - Johnny is also an author of the OpenID4Java library, which enables developers to easily OpenID-enable their Java web applications and is freely available under an open source Apache license.
OpenID4Perl - David Huska, one of our lead Perl developers, is an author for the OpenID4Perl library, which enables developers to easily OpenID-enable their Perl web applications and is freely available under an open source Apache license.
