You are a directory entry? Why Identity 2.0 matters to MySQL
12 February, 2008 - 12:30pm
Are you just a directory entry? Much of the data in a database is about people, however with the lack of an identity system for the Web, it is very difficult for people to prove something about themselves online and hard for them to easily move their identity data. In this new version of Sxip CEO Dick Hardt's Who is the Dick on My Site? keynote, he will provide a background on Identity 2.0, discuss current roadblocks and future opportunities, and explore the potential impacts these will have on databases. Hope to see you at the MySQL conference in Santa Clara in April!

Over half of North American Businesses to Use SaaS in 2008
25 January, 2008 - 4:13pm
Will this year be the tipping point for SaaS usage? New research from many analysts predict it. Saugatuck Technology states that by year end 55% of North American businesses will have deployed at least one Software-as-a-Service application. Similarly, by 2011 Gartner predicts SaaS will grow at double the rate of the total enterprise application market. And Forrester notes that the poster-child for SaaS, salesforce.com, is having a disruptive effect on the entire CRM market, suggesting that SaaS will comprise 25% of all new business software by 2011. With this growth however comes significant management and security challenges.
OpenID 2.0 Triples Adoption With Yahoo Support
17 January, 2008 - 5:47pm
Identity 2.0 got another boost today with Yahoo's announcement of support for OpenID 2.0. As one of the co-authors of the new OpenID 2.0 spec, we're delighted to see major internet portals like Yahoo with their 250 million user IDs, stand behind this emerging user-centric protocol. (For a great overview of OpenID 2.0's new capabilities see last month's ZDNet article, OpenID 2.0 Specification Released).
Identity breaches now over 200 million: losses doubled last year
9 January, 2008 - 4:44pm
The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse reports that identity data breaches as of January 5 have now reached over 215,000,000, more than double the amount reported as of January 5, 2007 of 100,000,000. Based on 2007 trends, it may well get worse. According to the Identity Theft Assistance Center, a non-profit coalition of major financial institutions, this year will bring more challenges for business and law enforcement with data security breaches growing in importance as a business issue. This is precisely why we need Identity 2.0, user-centric technologies that provide for greater privacy online.
Phishing for a decade: From Zero to $3 billion in 12 years
3 January, 2008 - 1:16pm
On this, the 12th anniversary of the first phishing attack it is dismaying to see phishing increasing not only in number to affecting in the US alone 3.6 million people at a cost of $3.2 billion, but also in new consumer and enterprise targets such as facebook and SaaS apps. This is precisely why we need Identity 2.0, with greater privacy and control for users online. Hopefully 2008 will see a reversal of this scary security trend, with the mainstream deployment of secure user-centric technologies such as Information Cards from identity selectors like Microsoft’s Windows CardSpace and Novell’s DigitalMe.
Trust 2.0: A Safe & Accountable Internet?
2 January, 2008 - 5:02pm

OpenID 2.0 Finalized: User Centric Identity For Christmas
5 December, 2007 - 3:10pm
The internet community got an early Christmas present this morning, after more than 18 months of work the OpenID Authentication 2.0 and OpenID Attribute Exchange 1.0 were released today as final specifications (”OpenID 2.0") at the Internet Identity Workshop. Kudos to David Recordon, Josh Hoyt, and Sxip's Dick Hardt (three of the authors and editors)! There are already several open source libraries shipping these specifications with product support including Drupal and Google’s Blogger (via Sxip’s library). Multiple OpenID Providers including Sxipper also already have support for both of these specifications. Additional security extensions for phishing-resistant authentication are also available with PAPE. The finalization of the specs brings us one step closer to our Identity 2.0 vision of enabling individuals to create and manage their online digital identities. Find out more on OpenID.net.
Gartner: Phishing Attacks are Targeting SaaS Applications
4 December, 2007 - 4:54pm
Gartner has just published new research with similar findings to Sxip's Security Bulletin stating, "Targeted phishing attacks will increasingly focus on software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings that store large quantities of customer and business information" and that "users still are falling for phishing attacks, and the most dangerous of these are focusing on high value targets, like sales force automation and CRM systems." They recommend strong enterprise security programs for SaaS providers. We agree, however we suggest more advanced measures with no web form login by users, such as authentication with emerging Single Sign-On technologies like Information Cards, to substantially reduce the the phishing risk.
CRM Phishing - Brand Theft
30 November, 2007 - 2:51pm
Sxip's founder & CEO, Dick Hardt, has just published on his Identity 2.0 blog a posting on a disturbing new trend concerning enterprise phishing and on-demand applications. He notes, "Previously considered a threat for consumers, phishers are now targeting an enterprise’s customer list and using it to launch attacks against the enterprise customer - exploiting the enterprise brand." The effect this has on the compromised brands alone, (aside from the data and financial losses), is cause for concern -- as cited in a survey published earlier this week that found public confidence in consumer brands is dramatically affected by phishing attacks. Fortunately new phishing-resistant security measures can be undertaken using user-centric technologies such as Information Cards. Read our new Security Bulletin (pdf) to find out more, or join us as IIW next week, where this will be a topic for discussion.
Trust, Identity & Accountability On the Internet?
29 November, 2007 - 10:48am
A persistent reputation and accountability -- is it possible to have this online? Sxip's founder & CEO Dick Hardt will discuss this in a new version of his infamously rapid fire Identity 2.0 talk at the Internet Identity Workshop next week. He'll be speaking on trust and how user-centric technologies like OpenID, are necessary to bind identity to past behaviors to create an online world that is accountable, trustworthy and safe, and with users in control of their digital identity. The talk is Monday afternoon at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. Hope to see you there!
SaaS Under Attack: Phishing for Your Customers
28 November, 2007 - 11:45am
The rise in enterprise on-demand application deployments has become a new and attractive target for phishers. As recently covered by CNET, Washington Post, eWeek and many others; phishers are employing multi-phased attacks that acquire enterprise customer contact data in order to launch further sophisticated assaults that exploit the trusted relationship between the enterprise and their customers. Thus, if you're using popular software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications for corporate email such as Google Apps, or for CRM such as Salesforce, you may be a target. Download our security bulletin (pdf) to gain a better understanding of the risks and the appropriateness of additional security measures.

Yahoo videocast on user-centric identity, Perl & Sxip
14 November, 2007 - 12:54pm
This 15 minute videocast with Sxip's founder and CEO and Yahoo Developer Network's Jeremy Zawodny at Defrag covers a lot of ground from Dick's open source roots to advocacy of user-centric identity. They discuss Dick's innovations over the past decade from leading the port of Perl to Windows in the mid-1990s with Microsoft, to being the first to build on the Mozilla platform with the Komodo IDE at ActiveState, to the creation of Identity 2.0 at Sxip. They concur on the state of user-centric identity being very much like the early days of the web (at the edge) with consumers just starting to become educated about the digital identity problem and solutions such as OpenID and CardSpace.
Defragging Identity 2.0
6 November, 2007 - 5:39pm
Our founder & CEO's latest Identity 2.0 keynote has generated some great comments regarding identity, trust, accountability and user-control on the web. Phil Windley of IT Conversations states, "much of what's he's saying is right in line with the reputation work my students and I have been working on. He makes a critical link to identity: identifiers bind personas together to increase trust." Dan Farber of CNET remarked, "His main thesis is that solutions, like OpenID, are necessary to “defrag” identity and bind it to past behaviors to create a world that is accountable, trustworthy and safe, and with users in control in a granular way of their online presence. Dick said the video would be available in a few weeks. Don't miss it." You bet! We'll post it as quickly as possible...

Mitigating Business Identity Theft: SaaS Anti-Phishing & Sxip Access
25 July, 2007 - 10:31am
Analyst James Van Dyke expressed concern in the Javelin Research blog last week about recent phishing emails where a popular software-as-a-service application was being impersonated. Our on-demand identity management solution, Sxip Access, can assist with the prevention component of that battle. We provide enhanced phishing protection for SaaS apps through a number of methods including: two-factor authentication, CardSpace access support, and single sign-on with SAML tokens.

eWeek on the IdM advantages of Sxip Access for Google Apps
12 June, 2007 - 1:57pm
eWeek Labs published a great product review by Cameron Sturdevant today of using Sxip Access for SAML-based single sign-on to Google Apps. Cameron states, "There are a number of advantages to using an identity management system such as Sxip Identity with an on-demand service such as Google Apps. For one, with user authorizations piped through our in-house directory, we felt more certain about who was and wasn't using Google Apps than we did when we used the Google Apps administrative console as our sole authentication gatekeeper." Read more on ease of Active Directory integration, enabling access control to Google Apps without having to maintain a separate authentication store.
The Cost of Online Fear: $2 billion and counting
6 June, 2007 - 2:14pm
Today's report by analysts eMarketer finds that the undermining of consumer confidence in online security has resulted in a substantial decrease in e-commerce activity. American internet users are adjusting their online behavior to avoid identity theft by visiting fewer sites, ceasing to bank online and purchasing less online. The study claims that approximately 3/4 of Americans are concerned about identity theft and 1/4 are now limiting their e-commerce use. Ben Macklin author of the study states, "not even counting the actual losses to fraud and theft suffered by internet users and businesses, which are not insubstantial, the loss of potential online revenue is enormous."

They stated, "Your data is yours — that doesn't change at Google... we want to provide you with the opportunity to retrieve your user information and cease usage of the JotSpot service before the transition." Kudos to both companies for providing this type of proactive privacy protection!

Doppelgangers & ID Theft -- Why We Need Identity 2.0
22 August, 2006 - 10:10am
I recently came across a disturbing post about a professor who was the unfortunate victim of online identity theft with an unusual twist -- not for the intention of financial gain -- but rather to discredit him. Regardless if you agree with Dr. Myers' personal beliefs, activities by imposters like this are wrong and could be prevented with Identity 2.0.
Who are you? I really want to know (and can now easily find out)
14 August, 2006 - 4:20pm
Is your digital identity your personal intellectual property? Is your Google identity yours or someone elses? Mary Hodder posits these important questions in her Napsterization blog in response to the recent release by AOL of 19 million internet search queries by more than 600,000 of its members. This "Data Valdez" incident as coined by Kevin Bankston of the Electronic Frontier Foundation in the New York Times, brings to light the broader issues surrounding online identity aggregation, privacy, and anonymity.
Identity and Identification in a Networked World
14 August, 2006 - 5:20am
Increasingly, who we are is represented by key bits of information scattered throughout the data-intensive, networked world. Online and off, these core identifiers mediate our sense of self, social interactions, movements through space, and access to goods and services. There is much at stake in designing systems of identification and identity management, deciding who or what will be in control of them, and building in adequate protection for our bits of identity permeating the network. Join us at the NYU School of Law's symposium next month, where Sxip's founder and CEO, will be giving the opening keynote on Day 2 on the "Emerging Age of Who".
My Federation? On user-centrism, federation & identity
13 August, 2006 - 9:43am
For the past few months there's been a heated dialogue amongst members of the ID Gang about the definitions of user-centrism and federation. The conversation started in earnest at the Burton Group Catalyst conference, continued at the Identity Open Space meeting, and many have weighed in on the issue since then. Why is a seemingly mundane discussion of semantics important? Issues of the user's role in identity exchanges, trust, freedom, and choice have significant implications for how the emerging identity architectures such as OpenID and InfoCard are designed. And correspondingly affects matters of privacy, liability, and scalability on the Web. The following is a brief overview of some of the key points:
Gartner Finds Identity 2.0 Not Ready for Mainstream Until 2008: We disagree
10 August, 2006 - 2:54am
Gartner Research's new report "Identity 2.0 is Too Ill-Defined for Imminent Deployment" is correct in stating that the different technical approaches will hinder adoption until standards are adopted. However, we believe there are a number of recent factors leading to widespread usage soon, including: current activity underway in the identity community for interoperability between protocols (including discussions with the Liberty Alliance); Sxip's involvement with OpenID along with a host of other companies; the OpenID bounty program; Wikipedia's intention of adopting OpenID; and the efforts being made by us and others over the past year for a user-centric standard; all of which are indicators to the start of an Identity 2.0 tipping point.

Of note, the interview segment starts 21 minutes after the beginning of the show.

Securing Web Identities
27 July, 2006 - 3:27am
As commercial and social interactions continue to migrate to the web, establishing "who" we are is essential, and current identity management technologies are failing to operate at internet scale. SXIP Protocol Renaming?
19 July, 2006 - 8:05am
Since our first release of the SXIP protocol in September 2004, we've received a ton of feedback on a number of issues, one of which we've yet to address -- that of the name itself. We've found there's been some confusion of SXIP with our company, Sxip Identity, and concerns over whether there was a clear seperation between the protocol and the company. Although we've tried to address this with open source licensing, we believe that with the Identity Open Space meeting tomorrow and Friday here in Vancouver, that now is an appropriate time to revisit the protocol name and would appreciate community involvement in the process. Accordingly, we'd like to receive input from the IOS attendees and others in the identity space. Looking forward to a great two days of discussions! If you can't attend, please feel free to give us your comments below...

Identity 2.0 & Google, Not!
6 July, 2006 - 11:16am
Google has been under the identity gun ever since they announced an Account Authentication system that looks an awful lot like Passport, whereby instead of Microsoft, all your identity info in effect belongs to Google. Sxip's founder and CEO, Dick Hardt was the first to note the problems with this approach on his Identity 2.0 blog, and since then CNN, the Guardian, ZDNet, Microsoft's Identity guru Kim Cameron, and others have commented how problematic this approach to digital identity is.

Disturbing Identity Reports
23 June, 2006 - 11:08am
A couple recent news stories reinforce our belief in the need for Identity 2.0. The Anti-Phishing Working Group reported that May was a record month for phishing scams. According to the APWG there were 11,976 phishing websites last month, the most ever recorded, and a more than three-fold increase from 2005. Also of note, 34% of all phishing sites worldwide were hosted on infected American PCs! Other troubling announcements are from several US government agencies regarding the theft of identity data, including that of the FTC, Veterans Affairs, and the NNSA (which oversees the American nuclear weapons program).

Emerging IdM Technologies at Catalyst: User-Centrism & Appliances
15 June, 2006 - 4:26pm
It's great to see the increased focus on user-centrism at the annual Burton Group Catalyst conference. President Jamie Lewis remarked in his opening keynote that there's a lot of hype around it being a solution for privacy and identity theft and that there's diverging opinions as to how we'll achieve an identity metasystem -- whether it's Microsoft, Higgins, or DIX. Of note, analyst Mike Neuenschwander stated identity appliances and user-centric products such as those by Microsoft and Sxip, are two of the three emerging identity management technologies.
Sxip Supportive of Novell's Bandit Open Source IdM Project
12 June, 2006 - 9:43am
Novell just announced the creation of Bandit, an open source project intended to unify disparate identity systems and provide a consistent approach to securing and managing identity. We believe the identity management industry needs a common approach to secure, role-based access and compliance reporting for the enterprise and open source projects like Bandit from Novell and Higgins are a great step in that direction. We see this as a natural complement to the user-centric Identity 2.0 efforts being made with SXIP and DIX and are excited to work with them on adding support of Bandit, Higgins and eDirectory.

Why Web 2.0 Needs Identity
23 May, 2006 - 2:01pm
ZDNet's Eric Norlin recently posted an excellent article commenting on a series of stories by Dion Hinchcliff on Web 2.0. Eric identifies the problem with this in that, "applications are creating data stores of identity information and attributes. And, by default, those applications are not interoperable with other Web 2.0 applications. Thus, we are 'silo'ing' even more identity data as we build out Web 2.0." He correctly identifies Identity 2.0 as the solution, noting that to do otherwise we are "still locking up identity data — in essence, keeping that section of its architecture 'web 1.0'."

This and analysis like David Sifry's new State of the Blogosphere that show 60% of pings are from spammers, really make the case for Identity 2.0 and why we need a new means for handling identity and reputation on the Web.

ETech Day One: Why the Attention Economy Needs User Centric IdM
6 March, 2006 - 3:33pm
The three speakers this evening discussed issues that we believe will not succeed unless there's a user-centric Identity 2.0 Web. The issues ranged from Attenuation, to the Architecture of Participation, to the Internet of Things. To reach their full potential all of these require (in Bruce Sterling's words) digital identities that must be uniquely identifiable, and (in our opinion) also under the control of the user.

On Star Trek, Walled Gardens, and Identity 2.0
8 February, 2006 - 3:43am
Vin Crosbie wrote an excellent article last week using an analogy of the Cheronians from Star Trek on "Freedom/Registration, Control/Controlled: Identity 2.0 Eliminates Polarity". He extends the comparison to the Internet suggesting that the Cheronian's polar differences towards online anonymity, identity and privacy result in a Web 1.0 world of walled gardens or "identity silos". He recommends Identity 2.0 as the solution for escaping the cheronian madness of absolutism on the Web.

Identity 2.0, Privacy & a Surveillance Society
25 January, 2006 - 12:03pm
David Shenk of the New York Times wrote an interesting article today on technology outpacing the public debate on security versus civil liberties. He notes that "In our post-9/11, protowireless world, democracies and free markets are increasingly saturated with prying eyes from governments, corporations and neighbors. For better and worse, free societies are fast entering the world of total surveillance." This is precisely why we need Identity 2.0 mechanisms, that can provide for privacy, anonymity, and security.
How Identity 2.0 Can Help the Writeable Web
23 January, 2006 - 10:32am
Dion Hinchliffe has an excellent article posted in the Web Services Journal yesterday on the problems facing the two-way nature of social software and how best to address it. Indicative of this, he cites the closure of comments on the Washington Post blog due to inappropriate content and believes that a system is needed that encourages the responsible use of an editable and changeable Web. His solution? Identity 2.0 may be the answer.

Identity Gang II Podcast on User-Centric Internet Identity
11 January, 2006 - 1:47pm
The leading experts in user-centric identity were recently conveyed for an in-depth podcast to discus what's been accomplished and their predictions for the coming year. We agree with moderator, Doc Searls', conclusion that significant progress has been made in the identity space with URL/URI based systems. As the blogosphere shows, these locations and pages are a way of representing identity that people are familiar with and are a means to how we get "there" (to widespread deployment) from "here" (developing identity sytems).

22 December, 2005 - 11:49am
A recent analysis of the blogosphere by UMBC eBiquity Research Group at the University of Maryland found that 75% of pings from blogs are actually from "splogs" or spam blogs, which they say constitute 50% of all blogs! (Pings are messages sent from blog and publishing tools to a centralized network service, a Ping Server, providing notification of newly published posts or content. "Spings", or ping spam, are pings that are sent from a splog. A major issue recently has been these unjustified pings, or spings).

These are the places that lure what Richard Florida, the Hirst Professor at George Mason University's School of Public Policy, calls the "creative class."

The AMR Research study shows that over 78% of respondents across major vertical industries and company sizes are currently using or considering on-demand. Similarly, 65% of respondents in the Cutter Consortium survey said they were using or considering on-demand.

The survey also found that privacy concerns would deter more than 40% of the respondents from buying from smaller online retailers.
Web 2.0 & User Identity Silos

He describes the evolution of the Internet from its creation in the Web 0.x phase of "few to many" to today's inspiring and promising Web 2.0 "reinvigoration" phase. 26 October, 2005 - 9:10am
Last evening's panel discussion on Web 2.0, which was moderated by Sxip's founder & CEO Dick Hardt, at the Vancouver Enterprise Forum was by far one of the most stimulating talks I've seen. The enormous setting alone made for a fabulous backdrop for the speakers, with three movie-sized presentations going simultaneously on the massive OMNIMAX screen at Science World. Kudos to Bryght's Boris Mann, who did a fabulous job of featuring Web 2.0 on the fly including AJAX, Flickr, and JotSpot to name a few.

Two-Factor Authentication and Phishing
20 October, 2005 - 4:15pm
There's been a lot of discussion recently about two-factor authentication as an answer to the phishing problem. We agree with Derek Valada's conclusion that it's fine for the short term, but isn't a long term solution. Similarly, Bruce Schneir's perspective that phishing attacks are possible because of the inherent unverifiability of the internet, is dead on. Phishing and pharming are easy because authenticating on the internet is hard. What is needed is Identity 2.0, an online mechanism for authenticating and managing real-world user-centric identities.

The judges and audience then pick the most likely companies to succeed. Looking forward to the competition!
Web 2.0 Wrap Up: Hope or Hype
10 October, 2005 - 11:01am
Well there's been a lot of buzz over the past week, which could be misconstrued as hype, or as I've heard a number of people phrase it "Dotcom 2.0". However, I concur with Brent Holliday that there are solid benefits to Web 2.0 that aren't just cool "mash-ups" of technology. He notes in his article "Two Point Oh No," that these benefits include: true software-as-a-service, lower costs of gaining critical mass (the "long-tail" of interconnected smaller sites of content at work), and innovation from how you assemble all of the open source, lightweight parts and constantly improve on them. We hope that people look past the cynicism and see that an "architecture of participation" really is underway [i.e. Technorati states that 100,000 new blogs a day are created!]

Stay tuned, as we'll be releasing a beta soon and would love your feedback on what features you like and don't and what blogs you'd like to see us support.

Web 2.0 -- The Next Generation of Software
3 October, 2005 - 3:41pm
Tim O'Reilly, Founder & CEO of O'Reilly Media recently published an in-depth article laying out the design patterns and business models of Web 2.0. He gives an interesting perspective on the importance of data, which he likens to "the next Intel Inside". He notes that every significant internet application to date has been backed by a specialized database i.e. Google's web crawl, Amazon's database of products, and eBay's database of products and sellers. He believes however that the race is on to own certain classes of core data such as location, identity, and calendaring of public events. With respect to identity, he points to "startups like Sxip who are exploring the potential of federated identity in quest of a kind of 'distributed 1-click' that will provide a seamless Web 2.0 identity subsystem."
Remixing RSS: Future Implosion or Saved by Identity 2.0?
30 September, 2005 - 8:22am
Roland Tanglao's fabulous presentation on Remixing RSS last week is now available online as a podcast. We agree with his assessment that one of the most interesting parts of the evening was the Q&A amongst the Web 2.0 user group members. The discussion revolved around what is going to happen to the future of RSS as it becomes increasingly popular -- will the signal to noise ratio be overwhelming and thus go the way of Usenet? Roland commented on the differences this time being: search engines, filtering, and if we have Identity 2.0.
Digital Identify Defined
29 September, 2005 - 8:50am
Our Identity 2.0 video of Dick's keynote at the O'Reilly Open Source Conference this summer is continuing to pique people's interest. ZDNet's Dan Faber wrote yesterday, "Must watch: I've seen Dick Hardt's presentation on the nature of digital identity evolve over the last several months, and the version available here really captures the complexities of participating in an online world and how identity is at the center of the Web experience."

Since then, we've added Perl, PHP, Python and Java Membersite Development Kits; the Sxip Network Homesite package; and suport for Drupal. We've also been taking in feedback from the community with what you want to see in SXIP 2.0. And we'll be making available really soon, a new tool for bloggers, sxore, a reputation system for user generated content built with Identity 2.0 technology. Check it out for yourself at next week's Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco. We'll be demoing sxore at our booth #1B. Hope to see you there!
Identity and the Big Bang
26 September, 2005 - 2:27am
Our founder & CEO, Dick Hardt, is participating in two interesting days of dicussions this week on identity management at the Stanford Law School. The goal of day one is to identify specific approaches to ensuring that international treaties and identity management technologies mesh to bolster freedom in the networked world. The topic of day two covers the Laws of Identity and user centricity; authentication, privacy, distributed governance and participant roles in identity meta-systems. This is a preparatory meeting for upcoming Workshops and a National Conference on Identity Metasystems and the Big Bang. Looking forward to hearing their findings!
Trusted Computing -- A Brave New World?
21 September, 2005 - 11:45am
The Electronic Frontier Foundation bring up some excellent questions surrounding Trusted Computing with respect to privacy invasion, "big brother" control, and vendor lock-in / anti-open source. Although Trusted Computing is tangential to our identity management focus; our Identity 2.0 vision of the Web is founded on giving control of digital identity back to the individual. Thus the concerns raised by the EFF are something that bears mention. They provide an excellent summary in Trusted Computing: Promise and Risk. Check out an informative and entertaining video that explains the issues in plain English!
Passwords will reach breaking point by 2007 says Gartner
19 September, 2005 - 10:39am
Gartner recently warned that in two years, 80% of organizations will have reached a password breaking point. They claim that passwords will become increasingly unusable as organizations try to stay ahead of hackers by making them more complex and increasing the frequency of changes. Ant Allen, Gartner Research VP, likened this to "rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic".

For those interested in joining, you can sign up at yahoo groups. Look forward to seeing you there!
Dreamforce Day Three: Packaged Software & Drug Pushers
15 September, 2005 - 11:30am
The Dreamforce conference closed with a bang during the Salesforce.com Partner Summit in a no-holds-barred panel of VCs discussing "How to Succeed in the On-Demand World". Moderated by AMR Research Chief Research Officer, Bruce Richardson, the discussion was frequently akin to that of the McLaughlin Group, and proved to be entertaining and informative. Perhaps the most incendiary comment was that of Ray Lane (formerly an Oracle Executive) and now General Partner with Kleiner Perkins, who compared packaged software vendors to that of drug pushers. Ouch! Glad we deliver our solutions via an appliance and hosted form factors.
Dreamforce Day Two: Intelligent Reaction
14 September, 2005 - 7:19am
The day started off with an excellent interview being broadcast of saleforce.com's CEO Marc Benioff on CNBC and his take on the Oracle/Siebel merger, which he humorously quipped "Oracle put Siebel investors out of their misery. We have been doing that for Siebel customers for years." The interview was followed by a number of speakers, the most interesting of which was the keynote by Google's Adam Bosworth on "Intelligent Reaction".

We've added rich client support to Sxip Access, which now provides salesforce.com customers secure access to the Salesforce Outlook, Office, Offline and Wireless Editions. Dreamforce Day One: Success On Demand
12 September, 2005 - 3:01pm
"The Internet makes inevitable the end of software". Marc Benioff, the Chairman & CEO of salesforce.com, issued this bold statement during his keynote today in San Francisco at their annual user and developer conference, Dreamforce. He unveiled the details of a major new initiative, AppExchange, saleforce.com's soon-to-be-released platform for sharing applications and components, an offering Benioff likened to the eBay of the applications world.

The presentation is now online and can be viewed on your own computer in large and small versions in Flash, Quicktime and Windows Media.
Kudos to the Katrina PeopleFinder Project
